BALANGIR: Threatening to boycott the upcoming panchayat election, a group of women on Tuesday demanded before the Collector to take action against the brewing units in the area. They alleged that the presence of liquor units has affected their daily activities and destroyed their peace. The women belonged to Bitabandh, Nuapada, Rengali and Kandakhal villages under Muribahal block.

"Though we have complained about the presence of seven illegal liquor units near our village to Titlagarh police and sub-collector, no step has been taken by them so far," said Pratima of Bitabandh village. "It is known that liquor acts as a prime factor in swaying moods of voters and hence officers are unwilling to take any step to curb the free flow of liquor," she alleged. Earlier, women of Malamanda had staged similar protest demanding shutting down of liquor units in their village.
