AURANGABAD: Congress on Tuesday quashed speculations that Sillod MLA Abdul Sattar is planning to quit the party, saying that he would actively participate in the forthcoming ZP and Nagar Panchayat elections in the district.
The party announced a list of executive body of its city unit working committee. City Congress president Namdev Pawar said the party has given representation to all sections of society. But if sources said names of most of Sattar’s supporters are missing from the list.
Speaking to reporters, Pawar said Sattar is a senior leader whose role in the upcoming elections, especially in the rural pockets of the district, would be crucial.
“There is no dispute in the party with regard to Sattar. He is a senior leader and will be available for campaigning,” he said, adding that it is the first list of the executive body.
“The names of some other party workers and representatives from three to four localities in the city are still under consideration. The second list of executive members will be declared soon,” he said.
Sattar had resigned from the post president of Aurangabad district Congress alleging that the senior leaders of the party did not cooperate with him in the recently held municipal council elections.
Although Congress won the municipal council election in Khuldabad and Kannad, it lost many seats in Paithan and Gangapur municipal councils by narrow margins. According to Sattar, had the seniors cooperated with him, the party would have registered wins in Paithan and Gangapur as well.
