Members of Yadgir District Advocates Association, who launched an indefinite dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding land for a new district court complex in Yadgir on Monday, continued their dharna on the second day on Tuesday.

They decided to continue the dharna until a notification on land acquisition was issued by the district administration. Hundreds of advocates started the indefinite dharna after the district administration reportedly allotted the land sanctioned for the purpose to construct a residential quarters for Revenue Department officials. The advocates, led by Mahipal Reddy Itagi, president of the District Advocates Association, refused to withdraw the dharna even after Deputy Commissioner Khushboo Goel Chowdhary, who held talks with them twice, promised to finalise the land issue in 15 days.

When contacted, Mr. Itagi told The Hindu over phone that “we were facing the problem for the past several years without facilities and our demand has not been considered despite many reminders. Therefore, the members have decided to continue the dharna until land is sanctioned.”

Addressing the advocates, Narasighrao Kulkarni, Senior Advocate, said that the response from the elected representatives to dharna was very poor as they have not shown any interest in building a new court complex, though the issue is also related to the general public.

S.B. Patil, Ganghadhar Awanti, Ninganna Bandalli, Devindrappa, Aminreddy, Pushpalatha Patil, Savitri Patil and S.P. Nadekar were present.
