Sensex Up Over 100 Points, Hindalco Surges Nearly 5%

1:19 p.m.: Axis Bank was the top loser in the Nifty, down 1.33 per cent at Rs 446.75. Ambuja Cements, Grasim Industries, Eicher Motors, Power Grid, ACC, Dr Reddy's Labs, HDFC and Maruti Suzuki and Bank of Baroda were also among the laggards.

1:14 p.m.: From the Nifty basket of shares, 37 were advancing while 14 were declining. Hindalco was the top gainer from this space, up 3.73 per cent. Tata Motors, Adani Ports, BPCL, Wipro, Reliance Industries, Bharti Infratel, Asian Paints, TCS, ITC and Mahindra & Mahindra were also among the gainers.

1:02 p.m.: Broader markets trade in-line with the benchmark indices. The BSE mid-cap index climbs 0.25 per cent and small-cap index jumps 0.55 per cent; HPCL was the top gainer from this space. Indiabulls Housing Finance, Piramal Enterprises, Bharat Electronics, Cummins India, Bharat Forge, Marico and NALCO were also among the gainers.

11.30 a.m.: Markets continue to trade higher with the Sensex rising 131 points at 26,858. The Nifty was 36 points above its previous close at 8,272. Auto, metal, energy stock were prominent gainer in the market. 

10.40 a.m.: Hindalco shares surged 4.68 per cent to Rs 165.40 on the NSE to be the top gainer in Nifty. GMDC, Nalco, Tata Steel, Hindustan Zinc, JSPL were the other metal gainers, rising between 0.9-2.5 per cent. The Nifty Metal, NSE's sub-index for metal stocks, was up 1.42 per cent. 

Meanwhile, The Sensex was up 127 points at 26,853.87 and the Nifty50 index traded 39 points higher at 8,275. 

10.35 a.m.: Engineers India shares were up 3.7 per cent at Rs 158.20 after the company bagged orders worth Rs 2,500 crore from HPCL for execution of Vizag refinery modernisation project. 

9.45 a.m.: IndusInd Bank shares were down 0.24 per cent at Rs 1,156.45. The private sector lender reports its numbers today. Analysts polled by NDTV has estimated its net profit at Rs 728 crore (up 25 per cent annually), while it's net interest income is seen growing 16 per cent to Rs 1,479. 

Meanwhile, the Sensex was up 120 points at 26,847 and the Nifty was 36 points higher at 8,272. 

9.35 a.m.: Out of the 51 stocks in Nifty, 46 stocks were in green and 5 stocks were in red. Tech Mahindra was the top loser in Nifty, down 0.92 per cent. HCL Tech, TCS, Axis Bank, ACC were the other losers in the Nifty. 

9.20 a.m.: The BSE sensex and Nifty opened higher on Tuesday led by buying in auto and energy stocks. The Sensex was up 137 points at 26,863, while the Nifty50 index traded 41 points higher at 8,277. 

Auto and energy stocks were the prominent gainers in the market today. The Nifty Auto and Nifty Energy sub-indices of NSE were up 0.74 per cent and 0.80 per cent respectively. 

Among the Nifty stocks, BPCL was the top gainer, up 2.44 per cent at Rs 669.05 followed by Tata Motors, ONGC, Tata Motors DVR and ICICI Bank, which were up between 1-2 per cent each. 

9.00 a.m.: Rupee opens higher at 68.08 per dollar against Monday's close of 68.21.
