Plea in HC for rescue of girl forced into film role

A division bench of Justices R Subbiah and J Nisha Banu ordered notices to Tirunelveli Police returnable by two weeks.

MADURAI : The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has ordered notice to Tirunelveli Police on a petition seeking a direction to rescue an 18-year-old girl who was allegedly forced to act in a Telugu movie in Hyderabad.

Petitioner J P Mrunalini said she has been residing with her husband J Palanivelayutham in Tirunelveli and has sent her teenaged daughter Dimple to Hyderabad to pursue higher studies. She was staying with her maternal grandfather N Surendraprasad and aunt R Lakshmiprabha.

Mrunalini said she was shocked to know while verifying her daughter’s passport application that Lakshmiprabha had stated her to be Dimple’s guardian in spite of the presence of both the parents and had also felt some changes in the attitude of both her father and elder sister.

When her father had asked her to sign a blank stamp paper, which she refused, she asked them to send her daughter back to her but they did not, the petitioner said, claiming that her daughter has been brain-washed by the duo.

“Now, they have forced Dimple to act in a movie named ‘Gulf’ and I am not able to contact her,” she said. Though she has preferred a complaint with Perumalpuram Police and has also petitioned the Tirunelveli city police commissioner, no action has been taken to rescue her, Mrunalini added.
