Mini marathon to raise awareness of Swachh Bharat

Thoothukudi: V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, as part of its ‘Clean India’ campaign, organised a mini marathon here on Sunday.

S. Anantha Chandra Bose, Chairman of the Port Trust, flagged off the marathon for men, women, boys and media persons, which began at Old Port (Zone – B) entrance gate. Around 1,500 persons participated in the event.

According to a statement, the nine-km marathon ended at Port School grounds. Water and refreshment booths had been set up for the benefit of participants. The Port Trust had also established medical booths with ambulances being kept ready.

In boys category, N. Murugan (Srivaikundam), K. Kamaraj (Pudukottai) and M. Ajithkumar (Thoothukudi) got the first, second and the third prizes respectively. In girls category, Jeyabharathi (Kattunaickenpatti), C. Subbalakshmi and E Selvi (both from Tirunelveli) received the first, second and the third prizes respectively.

In men’s category, S. Nikil Kumar (Ooty), S. Ruban Daniel (Veeravanallur) and R. Raja Perumal (Tiruchendur) bagged the first, second and the third prizes respectively. In media persons category, Hariharan (Makkal TV), Ravi (Malai Boomi) and D. Ulakalvon (One Tamil News) got the first, second and the third prizes respectively.

Mr. Bose and Port Trust Deputy Chairman S. Natarajan, Trustees C. Selvaraj and K. Pon Venkatesh, Secretary C. Mohan, Traffic Manager U. Rajendran, Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer S. Shanthi and Gangadevi Natarajan gave away prizes to the winners and the participants at Port School grounds.

Certificates and saplings were distributed to all the participants who completed the marathon.
