KANPUR: A scrap dealer was shot by armed dacoits in his house at Koylanagar in Chakeri on Saturday night.
Raju Khan, his wife Rizwana Khatoon, sons Arman, Farman, Suleman, Salman and daughters Nazia and Rifat and brother Shakir were sleeping. The dacoits entered the house through roof around midnight and reached downstairs. They had locked the doors of Shakir’s room, who was sleeping on the ground floor.
They reached the room of Raju Khan and shot him and injured his wife Rizwana and son Arman with the ‘butt’ of a firearm and escaped with cash and valuables.
The police said that Raju was shot when he tried to resist and tried to rescue his two-year-old son Salman from the clutches of the robbers, who were demanding cash and valuables from him after taking his son at gun-point.
When the dacoits escaped, the victims raised an alarm and called the neighbours. The neighbours alerted the police control room. Raju was taken to Kanshiram Trauma Centre where he succumbed. The Chakeri police allegedly arrived two hours after the incident. SSP Akash Kulhari and a forensic team and a dog squad arrived at the spot and initiated the investigation.
The Chakeri police have registered a case of murder, dacoity, causing grievous injuries wilfully, intimidation and house trespass.
A pall of gloom descended on the locality as the family members, relatives and local residents demanded immediate arrest of the dacoits. The police have so far found no clues. “Stringent action would be taken if Chakeri police failed to solve the case in a week,” the SSP said.
