‘Vijay Sethupathi is a natural actor’

... says Gayathrie Shankar whose Puriyaadha Pudhir opposite the actor, is releasing this week

Anyone who has watched Vijay Sethupathi’s Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (NKPK, 2012) would associate Gayathrie Shankar with the famous ‘Ppppaaaah’ dialogue. Though she wasn’t paired opposite him, she shared screen space with the Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) actor again in Rummy (2014). Now, she is his leading lady in Puriyaadha Pudhir.

Without spilling the beans on the plot, Gayathrie tells City Express, “It’s a thriller that has elements of suspense and romance. The film loosely revolves around the changes that technology has brought into our lives. Though we have dealt with such issues, it’s not preachy.”

Talking about Vijay Sethupathi, she says he’s a natural actor, fun to be with, and an outstanding performer. “Post NKPK, he has done many movies and his growth is phenomenal. I haven’t done as many projects, and naturally, there was a constant pressure to match up to his acting abilities. I have tried my best,” she laughs.

Also, she adds, the changes she has noticed in him as a person over a period of time. “Four years ago, he was relaxed and cool. Now, he’s a bit stressed because he’s working on multiple projects and keeps moving from one set to another.”

Working with debutante filmmaker Ranjit Jeyakodi was a different experience. “He motivated me and said, ‘Sethu is doing really well. You have the potential to score’,” she smiles.

Though she hasn’t signed anything new, she has  learnt to understand a character’s depth and how to study the scenes differently. “Considering that I am not all that ‘experienced’, I know I am immature when it comes to delivering complex emotions as an artiste. Over all, it has been a fruitful journey,” she grins.
