Donating kidney doesn’t affect donor’s physical ability: Expert

KARNAL: Waheed Zaman, senior consultant, urology and renal transplant, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, claimed that India ranked second in the world in kidney transplants from live donor.

Waheed Zaman, senior consultant, urology and renal transplant, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, claimed that India ranked second in the world in kidney transplants from live donor. While 95 per cent of kidney transplants in India are from a living donor.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Zaman, accompanied by RP Mathur, head of the nephrology department, Deepak Jain, senior consultant, nephrology, and Vikas Agarwal, consultant, urology and renal transplant, said against 2 lakh patients chronic kidney failure in the country, only about 5,000 receive new kidney. “We need to understand that donating one of the two kidneys does not affect one’s physical abilities, quality of life or longevity,” he added. —TNS
