AGRA: More than 6,500
National Service Scheme (NSS) student volunteers will play a significant role in upcoming
assembly election.
NSS units will organise special camps in different parts of Agra division wherein student volunteers will make door-to-door visits to spread awareness on electoral processes.
In the current session, there are 64 units of NSS in state government-run secondary schools in Agra Division.
These units comprise a total of 6,850 student volunteers, and will organise week-long special camps from January 15. The secondary education department will ensure that all units organise camps before the first phase of election on February 11.
According to department officials, there are a maximum of 200 volunteers in one unit. Every individual volunteer will be allotted houses according to the voters' list in a particular constituency.
NSS volunteers will also motivate people for maintaining sanitation and hygiene and construct toilets in houses not having the facility under
Swachh Bharat Mission.
R P Sharma, deputy director of secondary education, Agra Division, said, “NSS volunteers will play a significant role to ensure that the voter turnout in the upcoming assembly election rises.”
