Stalin appoint DMK’s working president

Chennai: Two days after he was appointed working president of the party, DMK scion MK Stalin on Friday quit the youth wing secretary's post, which he had held for over three decades.

Former minister Vellakoil MP Saminathan has replaced Stalin’s old position. The soft spoken Saminathan was highways minister from 2006 to 2011. Suba Chandrasekar, who was deputy secretary became the joint secretary of the youth wing. However, Stalin continues to hold the post of party treasurer.

DMK on Wednesday almost handed over party reins to 63-year-old MK Stalin by appointing him working president at a time when party president and Stalin's father M Karunanidhi is not keeping well. The minor changes effected on Friday came when Stalin, despite being elevated almost to the helm, has been holding other significant posts.

It might be recalled that Karunanidhi's family has witnessed several squabbles over the struggle for power between Stalin, his elder brother and former central minister MK Alagiri, who was snubbed and sidelined, and sister and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, besides the Maran brothers, who are the grandnephews of DMK patriarch.
