Newborn goes missing from SCB

On Thursday morning, a nurse informed them to take the new born baby to vaccination centre for immunisation.

CUTTACK: Close on the heels of the recent incident of a newborn baby girl being stolen from SNCU of SCB Medical College and Hospital here, a two-day-old boy went missing from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department on Thursday.

According to sources, Katiman Mandal (40) of Kaddatpur in Bihar, who works as a marble mason and resides at Muradkhanpatna under Malgodown police limits, had admitted his wife Sital Devi (39) in the hospital on Wednesday. She reportedly delivered a male child on the same day.

On Thursday morning, a nurse informed them to take the newborn baby to vaccination centre for immunisation. Katiman handed over the baby to an unknown woman who had come forward so motu to take care of his wife and was attending her in the maternity ward.

The unknown woman brought the baby by using the lift. But Katiman, who came through stairs, could not find her at the vaccination centre. He then informed the staff nurses both at the centre as well as gynaecology ward.

Mangalabag IIC Arun Kumar Swain said, “Though no FIR has been filed in this regard, the investigation has been started after getting information about missing of the newborn child from the hospital.”

On September 16, 2016, a newborn baby was allegedly stolen from the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the SCBMCH. The authorities of the hospital did not respond despite repeated attempts to get their comment in this regard.
