30th day ceremony for Jayalalithaa observed in Theni

About 10 priests conducted the ceremony as the Hindu traditions and the offerings to the dead were dissolved in the Surli theertham.

CHENNAI: The 30th day ceremony of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa was observed at Andipatti , in Theni district by district secretary Thanga Thamizhselvan on Thursday. Jayalalithaa died on December 5 and the AIADMK functionaries are observing the 30th day and holding ceremonies throughout the state. In Andipatti, where AIADMK founder MGR and his successor Jayalalithaa had successfully contested elections, Thanga Thamizhselvan, who is also the MLA of the constituency, led a silent procession.

The ceremony was near the Suruli Theertham which is considered sacred for holding such ceremonies. About 10 priests conducted the ceremony as the Hindu traditions and the offerings to the dead were dissolved in the Surli theertham. Annadhanam was given to 5,000 people.
