Chiranjeevi's Khaidi No 150 song Neeru Neeru and Aamir Khan’s water cup anthem: Two songs highlighting the plight of Indian farmers

The latest song from Chiranjeevi’s mega comeback film Khaidi No 150 has just released today and it has already been trending on social media. The song Neeru Neeru is a beautiful rendition by none other than Shankar Mahadevan. His soulful voice delivers a powerful message through the lyrics from Rama Jogayya Sastry. The song is a tribute to Indian farmers and it highlights the sad plight of Indian farmers. The music from Devi Sri Prasad complements the look and feel of the music and will definitely stir something in you.

The song talks about how there’s water (neer) in the eyes of the farmer, facing the hardships of being a farmer in a drought hit region and how no one cares enough to notice those tears or do something about it. The lyrics further highlight how the lack of support has left the land and hearts barren, leaving little or no hope! It questions who will now save them and their drying and dying crops. There is no water and while their lands and throats are parched, there seems to be no stopping the water falling from their eyes.

The sad, haunting music, the lyrics and the sketches together reiterate how being failed by nature and then the system, the Indian farmers have lost all hope. The song Neeru Neeru from Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No 150 is not entirely part of the feature film but has been especially made to pay a tribute to the farmers. It also echoes the main theme of the film that focuses on the issue of farmers committing suicide due to corporate encroachment amongst other troubles.
