Colour fields come alive

The present series of works by M Ramu,  explore & accentuate  the undercurrent of energy that exists in nature in a  symbolic manner.

HYDERABAD: The ongoing show at Icon art gallery brings forth a series of recent works by artist Maredu Ramu. The series titled, ‘Colour Fields’, contains abstract paintings that reinstate a deep connection with nature and its many interrelated realms.

The artist embraces the picture surface with an unrestricted and spontaneous energy that cannot be missed. The playfulness and subconscious understanding of space and composition grants the works a special charm. The criss cross, overlapping, coinciding and complimenting each other kind of colour strokes, make for a very interesting visual experience .

Mature treatment of the surface with the inclusion of textured areas infuses into the works, metaphorical references of the natural elements. Several times the applied strokes recreate the impression of vast landscapes. The artist refrains himself from working on finer details and ornamental rendering of the intricate elements. He absorbs and exemplifies the essence of Nature by creating myriad colour areas.

Colour is the artists favourite element of expression and  reigns all over the picture surface. The simplified depiction of vast landscapes with the juxtaposition of granular areas, grants the works a strong verve of liveliness and energy. In some of the works the artist doodles randomly over the coloured sections.

The fine lines of these simple drawings of flowers, geometrical shapes, spiral motifs and patterns, get merged into the vicinities of the stark, immensely bright space. These drawings start becoming visible and create a visible rhythm.
The show is on at till January 6.
