Abohar, January 2

The body of a girl, aged about 18 years, was found in a bag in the Gang Canal, the Sriganganagar police said today. Since the canal flows through the Malwa region, the place of occurrence of crime could be Punjab too, they said. Someone spotted the bag trapped near the Chak 25FF canal bridge yesterday and informed the Gajsinghpur police station. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem. The image has been put up on social media so that the identity of the deceased could be established.

The badly mutilated body of a man, aged about 60 years, has also been found in the canal near Kanwerpura village. It had to be cremated as it was difficult to identify the person, the police said. The Abohar police recovered the body of Manoj Kumar (21) of Pattisadiq village in a sub-canal near Jandwala Hanvanta village. His kin said Manoj was upset after a major brain surgery and left the house 10 days ago without speaking to anyone in the family. —OC
