A who died after a grisly crash on Interstate 495 Sunday has been identified.
State police said the single-vehicle crash happened before Exit 21 near Hopkinton. Troopers found the 2008 Chrysler Sebring broken apart into numerous pieces on the road.
Todd Reed, 31, of Southbridge, was trapped inside the front section of the vehicle with life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated from the wreckage.
A medical helicopter was requested, shutting down the road for 12 minutes, but medical personnel weren't able to stabilize the man for the flight.
Reed was taken by an ambulance to Milford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An initial investigation suggests that excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
