Najeeb Ahmed case: AMU students hold protest march against UP Police
Raising slogans against the UP police and carrying placard – "AMU stands against injustice" and "UP police murdabad", the students submitted memorandum to chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, through local administration demanding action against the cops.
AGRA: Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) took out a protest march on Monday against what they termed as a "brutal attack" on them by the police during their rail blockade program on Dec 31.
Raising slogans against the UP police and carrying placard – "AMU stands against injustice" and "UP police murdabad", the students submitted memorandum to chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, through local administration demanding action against the cops.

Talking to TOI, Nabeel Usmani, secretary of AMU Student's Union said, "we were proceeding towards the railway platform peacefully to protest against the failure of the police to trace missing JNU student, Najeeb Ahmad, when the police resorted to an unprovoked lathi charge, which left several students injured."
Dubbing the police action as “unjustified and undemocratic”, Usmani, said such treatment is not acceptable. He said the union expects the chief minister to initiate action against the guilty cops. The union also demanded him to direct police and other executive bodies of the government to behave in a gentle manner towards the students.
Students of AMU have been protesting against Ahmad's disappearance. The aim of the Dec 31 protest was to pressurize the union government to take concrete steps to trace Ahmad.
The AMU Students' Union had earlier demanded a CBI inquiry into Ahmed's mysterious disappearance and had also submitted a memorandum to the President of India. In their memorandum, the union without naming any particular organization, had blamed certain outfits for spreading unrest in universities across the country. "These organizations were also involved in the killing of of Rohit Vemula of Hyderabad Central University and a professor in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh”, the memorandum had stated.
