Hundreds attend funeral of slain cop

SRINAGAR: A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the District Police Lines, Handwara, to pay tributes to Constable Abdul Kareem who was killed in a militant attack on Saturday evening in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the District Police Lines, Handwara, to pay tributes to Constable Abdul Kareem who was killed in a militant attack on Saturday evening in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The Superintendent of Police, Handwara, led the police officers in laying floral wreaths on the mortal remains of the slain constable, a police officer said.

Constable Abdul Kareem was killed on Saturday evening when militants travelling in a vehicle opened fire at a police party at a checkpost in Chowgul, Handwara.

Hundreds of people, including Langate MLA Engineer Rashid, and all ranks of the Handwara police attended the funeral prayers of the slain constable at Lach, Mawar.

The slain constable is survived by his aged mother, pregnant wife and three children, of whom the eldest is a son and nine years old, a police spokesman said.
