Govt. to rehabilitate evicted Hakki-Pikki members at Shikaripura

The district administration has decided to rehabilitate permanently the members of the Hakki-Pikki community who were evicted recently from a government land at Mogerahalli in Srirangapatna.

Residential sites will be allotted to those evicted and houses constructed near Shikaripura, a tribal colony near Nagamangala, of the district, B. Malathi, District Social Welfare Officer, has told The Hindu .

The district administration will soon identify the land in this regard. A sum of ₹2 crore is available under the Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan.

The official said that there is no dearth of funds for providing shelter and other infrastructure facilities for the evicted tribal community members.

As many as 150 people staying in makeshift tents were evicted from Mogerahalli recently. Following this, A. Muniyappa, chairman, Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, visited the district on Saturday.

The district administration has made temporary shelter arrangements for the evicted tribal community members at Ambedkar Bhavan near Srirangapatna.
