MLC Oberoi passes away; Farooq, others pay tributes

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Sitting National Conference Member Legislative Council  (MLC) and two times Srinagar City Administrator, S Dharamveer Singh Oberoi passed away after brief illness in a Delhi hospital this morning.
He was 80 and is survived by wife, two sons, a daughter and grandchildren.
Party sources said that Oberoi was not keeping well for the last quite some time and was admitted to hospital at Saket in Delhi.  He breathed his last during morning hours.   The cremation took place in Delhi at 4 pm today.
Meanwhile, National Conference has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Party stalwart and sitting MLC, DS Oberoi. Party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working president  Omar Abdullah while expressing profound sorrow over Oberoi’s demise, paid glowing tributes to the departed leader and extended their heartfelt condolences to his family.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has also condoled the demise of MLC DS Oberoi , who passed away in Delhi today. In her condolence message, the Chief Minister while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, has prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
A sitting MLC, Oberoi was also the chief polling agent of NC working president Omar Abdullah during his Parliamentary Elections in 1999. Known for his unwavering loyalty and commitment to the cause of National Conference, Oberoi contributed immensely to his party and to the welfare and progress of the State.
In a message, NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah said Oberoi’s demise was a personal loss to him and an irreparable loss to the party. “Oberoi Sahab was a role model to many as his loyalty and commitment was unquestionable. In his demise the party has lost a tall stalwart whose contributions will be remembered for a long time to come,”  Dr Abdullah said.
Senior party leaders Abdul Rahim Rather,  Ali Mohd Sagar, Ch Mohd Ramzan, Mohd Shafi Uri, Mubarak Gul, Mian Altaf, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Nassar Aslam Wani,  Devinder Singh Rana, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, S Harbans Singh, Surjit Singh  Slathia, Abdul Ghani Malik, Sajjad Kitchloo, Mushtaq Bukhari, Aga Syed Mehdi, Sakina Ittoo,  Javed Rana,  Shameema Firdous, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Dr BA Veeri  and others  have also paid glowing tributes to  Dharamveer Singh Oberoi and expressed profound grief and sorrow over his demise.
