CHENNAI: Amidst cheers from party cadre, VK Sasikala assumed charge as the AIADMK general secretary on Saturday.
Her message to the cadre at the much anticipated occasion was, "If we stand united, the future is ours."
After garlanding the statue of party founder MG Ramachandran at AIADMK headquarters, Sasikala greeted the party cadre with folded hands. Later, she held discussions with senior leaders of the party including chief minister O Panneerselvam and signed official records to mark the takeover.
In her first ever public speech to party cadre, Sasikala recalled the tremendous efforts taken to save the life of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa. She also stated that her best part of life was spent on serving Jayalalithaa, adding that, the rest of her life would be dedicated to the AIADMK and the people of Tamilnadu.
