BHOPAL: The forest department booked two men on Thursday for illegally hunting protected migratory ducks at Bairagarh near Sehore Naka. The two are being questioned to find out if they were involved in poaching in the past as well.
Talking to TOI, range officer Arvind Ahirwar said, "Members of Bhojpal Mat Udhyog Sehari Samiti informed us about poaching on Thursday morning. After which, we sent our staff for investigation.
We caught Om Prakash Kewat and Ramu Kewat when the two were carrying two dead and three live ducks in a sack."
The duo was taken for questioning and the ducks were sent to find out if the birds belong to endangered species. Of the two dead ducks, one was of coot breed and the other was of a spot-billed breed. Both breeds are protected species. The live ducks were released in the Upper Lake and dead ducks were sent for forensic test, Ahirwar said, adding more names associated with the case would be revealed soon.
