Feed a child to build a strong nation: President

Feeding a hungry child is like feeding the next generation, thus contributing to building a stronger nation, said President Pranab Mukherjee here on Friday.

Feeding a hungry child is like feeding the next generation, thus contributing to building a stronger nation, said President Pranab Mukherjee here on Friday. Inaugurating the Adamya Chetana Seva Utsava-2017, Mukherjee applauded the trust’s mid-day meal initiative that covers more than two lakh schoolchildren in Karnataka and Rajasthan. “To feed a child means to feed the next generation. If they become healthier, educated and energetic, we can build a strong nation,” he said. The President also inaugurated Shankara National Centre for Cancer Prevention and Research.

“Cancer has become a dreaded disease. Scientists across the globe are conducting research to find a cure for cancer. Thousands of rupees have been spent but no solution has been found yet,” he said. Governor Vajubhai Vala, who was also present, said tuberculosis and typhoid were once deadly diseases. But through research, scientists have found cures for these diseases. “I am sure one day cancer can also be treated,” he said. Chief Minister Siddaramiah, Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar, Union Minister Ananth Kumar, managing trustee of Adhamya Chetana Foundation, Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, and managing trustee, Shankara Cancer Foundation Dr B S Srinath were present.

Governor all praise for Siddu government

Vajubhai Vala applauded the state government’s efforts in providing medical facilities to BPL card-holders at affordable rates. “It is a tremendous job to provide free cancer treatment at 90 per cent of the affiliated hospitals for BPL card holders,” he said. He also appreciated the `5 lakh subsidy given to farmers who sell milk.
