Four killed as car collides with truck near Madurai
VISAKHAPATNAM: Five persons died and four others critically injured when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) met with an accident on the NH-16 near Gokulapadu late on Wednesday night. The deceased are 42-yearold Rajesh Singh and his 19year-old son Subhash Singh, 49-year-old Roopa Lal, 18-year-old Neha Singh and 19-month-old Shreya. According to police, two families with 12 members of Rajesh Singh and Heera Lal, who were advocates in Hyderabad had started on a vacation on December 24.
The families visited Bhadrachalam, Araku, Vizag and Simhachalam during their visit.
While returning to Hyderabad on Wednesday night from Vizag, the families had planned to stop at Annavaram in East Godavari district for darshan of Lord Satyanarayana Swamy .
Police said the accident occurred as the front right wheel of vehicle burst all of sudden following which the driver Abhijith, who is the son of Heera Lal, lost control and hit the road divider.
Due to the high speed, the SUV crossed over to the other side and was rammed by a lorry.
While three persons died on the spot, police said that Abhijith's daughter Shreya and Heera Lal's niece Neha Singh succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at King George Hospital in the city. The deceased Roopa was wife of Heera Lal, police said.
A case has been registered and police are investigating into the accident.
