From Siddhartha to the Buddha

If you grew up in India, there's a good chance you've already heard the story of Lord Buddha. However, making the narrative more exciting is Buddha: An Enlightened Life, a new graphic novel from the Campfire stable.

Retracing legends
The story uses beautiful illustrations to follow the journey of Lord Buddha, beginning with his life as a prince named Siddhartha Gautama in the ancient city
of Kapilavastu. A wise man declares that he will grow up to be either a powerful king or a spiritual leader who will end all suffering.

Though his father keeps him sheltered, Siddhartha soon becomes aware of the pain and disease that plagues the world and so abandons his noble life in order to find answers.

The book shows you how Siddhartha faced the temptations of a demon, the outbreaks of war, and rebellion within his own order, and eventually became the founder of a religion that spreads a message of compassion and understanding.

Behind the pages
The book features illustrations by Rajesh Nagulakonda, who has also illustrated other Campfire titles such as Magical Animals, Krishna, The Little Alien, Ganesha, and Pride and Prejudice. In his free time, the versatile artist explores other forms of art, such as sculpture, nail-art on paper, metal engraving, and painting.

Meanwhile, Kieron Moore, who has authored the book, hails from northern England, and has worked in the British TV and film industries, as well as written for Doctor Who Adventures, Starburst magazine, and Intellect Books. Comics have always been one of his passions, having started by publishing a Star Wars rip-off about a Jedi penguin online at the age of 12.
