AIADMK general council resolves to work under Sasikala

The general council of the ruling AIADMK on Thursday resolved to work under V K Sasikala, a close aide of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, and entrusted the post of the general secretary of the party with her until an election is held for the same as per the bylaws of the party.

CHENNAI: The general council of the ruling AIADMK on Thursday resolved to work under V K Sasikala, a close aide of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, and entrusted the post of the general secretary of the party with her until her election to the post as per the bylaws of the party.
A resolution to this effect was proposed by 23 leaders, including chief minister O Panneerselvam and deputy speaker of Lok Sabha M Thambidurai and seconded by over 2,000 general council members.
The general council met in a marriage hall at Vanagaram on the outskirts of Chennai.
AIADMK partymen resolved to work under V K Sasikala's leadership. "This general council unanimously passes a resolution to appoint V K Sasikala as general secretary until elected as per bylaw rule 20, section 2 (election of general secretary by primary members)," the party said. Jayalalithaa had been unanimously elected to the post seven times.
While the meet was still on, chief minister O Panneerselvam and senior colleagues Edappadi K Palaniswami and Thambudurai came out and announced that they would leave for Poes Garden to meet Sasikala and get her consent for the unanimous resolution appointing her as general secretary.
The general council passed 14 resolutions. The meeting condoled the death of Jayalalithaa, urged the Centre to declare her birthday (Feb 24) as national farmers’ day, bestow Bharat Ratna on her and install a life-size bronze statue of her in Parliament. It resolved to get Ramon Magsaysay Award and Nobel Peace Prize for Jayalalithaa.
