Mumbai: Rape accused Nanavati doctor granted bail
MUMBAI: A Nanavati Hospital doctor who was arrested on charges of sexual assault was released on bail on December 27 after spending two weeks in Arthur Road Jail. Dr Kayan Siodia was arrested by Santacruz police after their Mira Road counterparts picked him up based on a complaint from a 28-year-old Mira Road resident on December 12.
The woman alleged that he sexually assaulted her after giving her an overdose of sleeping pills when she was undergoing treatment at the hospital in June.
She also alleged that he later made repeated calls to her seeking sexual favours.
After the arrest, Nanavati Hospital COO Dr Rajendra Patankar had said: “An inquiry has been instituted according to the Vishaka Guidelines (against sexual harassment). A suspension order was issued soon.”
An officer of Santacruz police said, “We will record statements of the hospital staff and seek findings of their inquiry. We are collecting phone call records of Dr Siodia to verify the claim that he repeatedly called her after she was discharged.”
