KORAPUT: Maoists lynched a villager and abducted another from Malkangiri's Chandanpur village under Orkel police limits on Monday night. The rebels also ransacked houses before leaving the village that is located just 500 metres from a BSF camp.
The deceased was identified as Rabi Pujari, 50, while the abducted villager is Manda Golari, police said. Around 50 Maoists, including some leaders like Udaya, Rakesh and Anil, swooped down on the village that is home to 27 families around 10 pm and dragged Rabi out of his house.
On charges of instigating villagers against the Maoists and helping police, the group of Naxals beat him to death, a source said.
The administration had rehabilitated 27 families at Chandanpur after they left their homes in Panasput and Andrapalli panchayats in the cut-off area owing to Maoists threat around a year ago.
Sources said while returning from the spot, the Maoists attacked the house of Sadhu Hantal, the BJD's block president at Pujariguda and fired three rounds in the air before assaulting his wife.
