Net services suspended due to strike in Bhilwara

Bhilwara district administration on Monday issued direction to bar internet services after ‘Nagrik Suraksh Manch’ called for an indefinite strike in the main market area to protest against the clashes which took place between two communities few days back.

JAIPUR: Bhilwara district administration on Monday issued direction to bar internet services after ‘Nagrik Suraksh Manch’ called for an indefinite strike in the main market area to protest against the clashes which took place between two communities few days back.
“Special directions were also issued to Kotwali (City), Bhimganj, Pratap Nagar, and Sadar police stations to keep a close watch on rumour mongers who whip up communal sentiments,” added a senior police officer.

Prohibitory directions issued by district collector also bans bulk SMS, MMS, 2G and 3G and other services provided by the internet services providers.
On December 12, tension prevailed in Manikya Nagar and Junawas areas of the district on the movement of a procession. The arguments soon turned ugly as people pelted stones at each other. Later, police had to invoke section 144 in the areas and heavy police force, including companies of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) was deployed to control the spillover of tension.
“It was reported to us that a few people are circulating false and inflammatory messages on social media groups such as Whats App to garner support for the bandh,” added a senior police official.
District collector M P Sharma issued these directions on Monday morning. District police also deployed guards in sensitive areas and beat constables have been asked to report any untoward situation as soon as possible. After the incidents of December 12, similar incidents of clashes were reported again on December 18 which led the district administration holding immediate talks with the members of two communities.
“We have advised people not to pay heed to rumour mongers. Shop keepers have also been told to continue with their business without fear and intimidation from anybody,” police official told TOI. Ban on internet services would be in effect till 72 hours (3 days).
