Qatar Stars League (QSL) outfit Muaither are expecting a resolute show from new imports Ahmed Yaseen and Minori Sato.
Iraqi right-winger Yassen and Japanese midfielder Sato have joined Muaither for the remaining part of the QSL season, club official Mubarak Ghanim said yesterday.
"Our contract with Yaseen is for six months. We will see how things go and then we will decide on the future contract," Ghanim said.
"The two players have signed the contract having cleared their medicals. Both are out of Doha but they will be in a couple of days to start training with their new teammates," he said.
Iraqi Yaseen has replaced Brazilian midfielder William Schuster while Sato has come in place of Jordanian striker Mahmoud Za'tara.
"We are confident that we have made the right call. We have got 9 points in the first four months. We feel we the new players will contribute strongly in the remaining few months of the season," he said.
Meanwhile, Syrian attacking winger Mahmoud Al Mawas has joined Umm Salal.
The highly-rated 23-year-old has good speed and 'excellent ball skills', according to team officials.
Al Mawas is expected to join the squad in a few days once he completes his medical on Tuesday, a club official said yesterday.
The winger has played for clubs in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Meanwhile, Umm Salal striker Ismail Mahmoud has been released from a local hospital following rehab scans on his injured knee ligaments.
Mahmoud suffered the injury during one of Umm Salal's games in QSL. He is expected to resume training in the coming days.
Mahmoud is expected to play against Al Khor on January 3 in what will be a round 14 clash.
In the meantime, QSL minnows Al Shahaniyah are set to announce a new coach following their 10-0 debacle against giants Lekhwiya in a round 13 clash last week.
According to club official Manahi Shammari, the 'change was necessary' considering last week's hammering, the heaviest for the side in QSL history.
Coach Jose Fernando could help the club to only two wins out of 13 matches in the first four months of the QSL season.
"The change was necessary considering the mistakes we have been repeating on the pitch," Shammari said.
"We will not rush to make an announcement. We have candidates in our minds. We will go for the best option. We believe this team has a lot to offer.
Meanwhile, Al Ahli will take on Sudanese team Al Merrikh Sporting Club in a friendly on Thursday.
Al Ahli are preparing for their QSL clash against former champions Al Gharafa on January 3.
The venue is yet to be decided, it emerged yesterday.
Al Ahli will miss the services of Mojtaba Jabbari of Iran and Meshal Mubarak, a club official said.
The match has been scheduled on the insistence of coach Yusuf Adam as the team prepares for the second half of the season.
