Government hospitals awarded for cleanliness

Among the 86 subdistrict hospital (SDH) across state, Tiroda SDH from Gondia (Nagpur division) won first prize in Maharashtra in the Kayakalp project under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

NAGPUR: Among the 86 subdistrict hospital (SDH) across state, Tiroda SDH from Gondia (Nagpur division) won first prize in Maharashtra in the Kayakalp project under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The project aims at bringing government hospitals at par with private ones with regards to cleanliness and hygiene.
In the district hospital category, which are 35 in the state (including women hospital), city's Daga Hospital bagged fourth prize, while the third prize was won by Wardha Civil Hospital.
Tumsar SDH in Bhandara won consolation prize. Among primary health care centres (PHCs), Bela PHC was adjudged best in Nagpur district.
Deputy director, health, Dr Sanjay Jaiswal said, “The health department including doctors and staffers worked hard to bag the award. It’s a matter of pride that Nagpur division alone has won four awards.”
Daga Hospital medical superintendent Dr Seema Parvekar received cash prize of Rs 3lakh, Tumsar SDH civil surgeon (CS) Dr Devendra Paturkar (Bhandara) received Rs 1 lakh, Wardha civil hospital CS Dr Purushottam Madavi received Rs 33 lakh and Tiroda SDH medical superintendent Dr Himmant Meshram received Rs 15 lakh on behalf of their hospitals at a function organized public health department office on Thursday.
The process to select the hospitals had started after August. Out of the 488 health care facilities, 79 hospitals scored more than 70% and were qualified for the state assessment.
Assessments were carried out at PHCs and best PHCs were chosen from every district on December 21. There are total 45 PHCs in Nagpur district. Bela PHC will receive Rs2 lakh, while PHCs from Dhapewada, Navegaon Khairi, Borkhedi, Mowad, Khacharisawanga have bagged consolation prize by scoring above 70% and will be receiving Rs50,000 each. The prizes will be given away soon, said Jaiswal.
