High Court rejects plea to shift trial in Kopardi case
The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court recently rejected the application of one of the accused in the Kopardi gang rape and murder case who sought to shift the trial from Ahmednagar.
The Karjat police arrested three men for their alleged involvement in the crime. Accused Nitin Bhailume had approached the high court seeking directions to shift the case to any other court citing communal tension in the village and apprehending threat to life. The matter came up for hearing on December 23.
Government pleader Amarjeetsingh Girase opposed the application stating the trial was progressing at a fast pace.

“Merely for personal wishes, the trial cannot be transferred to other courts,“ he said.Following the arguments, Justice AS Chandurkar rejected Bhailume's application. The accused had filed another application seeking to be discharged from the case registered against him by Karjat police but eventually withdrew the application.
