COIMBATORE: Two people were arrested on Saturday for stealing Rs 2 lakh cash from a Karnataka-based lawyer on Arts College Road here on Friday evening. Police seized the stolen amount and a car from the accused persons.
The arrested people were identified as P Logu alias
Loganathan, 50, from Sowripalayam and M Chinnu alias Chinnasamy, 53, a call taxi driver from Erode.
Logu, who was arrested two months ago for cheating, by Erode district police, had come out on bail from Coimbatore central prison last month. He has one case pending in Peelamedu police station.

Mathe Gowda from Kanagapura in
Ram Nagar district in
Karnataka, is a lawyer. He had called Loganathan as he wanted to buy a coconut fibre peeling machine.
He was summoned to Coimbatore on Friday morning by Loganathan and his associate Chinnasamy.

Gowda reached Coimbatore city on Friday and met Loganathan. They had gone to Avarampalayam to buy the machine which cost Rs 3.80 lakh. But Gowda had only Rs 2 lakh in cash and thus could not buy the machine.
The trio returned to a hotel on Arts college road. During this time Loganathan stole the Rs 2 lakh from Gowda and escaped in a taxi.
Mathe Gowda alerted Race Course police who traced the car in Sowripalayam. The police arrested the duo and seized Rs2lakh and a car from them. The duo was booked under section 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code. The duo has been lodged at Coimbatore central prison.
