As the year 2016 draws to a close, Prime minister Narendra Modi on 25th December 2016 in his last edition of the monthly radio programme, Mann ki Baat drew attention to an array of issues.

Mann ki Baat is a radio programme hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he addresses the people of the nation on radio, DD National and DD News which started two years back on 3rd October 2014.

Here are the major issues on which the PM spoke to the nation in the year 2016.

January 30th, 2016

In his address on the death anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, PM Modi in his address drew the nation’s attention to the use of Khadi products and Startup initiatives while appealing to the youngsters to come forward in the spirit of entrepreneurship.

February 28th, 2016

In an exclusive programme aimed for the school going students, Prime Minister Narendra Modi teamed up with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Chess champion Viswanathan Anand, popular Hindu bard Morari Bapu and Professor CNR Rao. “Compete with yourself, not with others,” was one of the tips to the young minds by the PM.
 
March 27th, 2016

Farmers, Tourism, under-17 Fifa and Diabetes were the subjects that the Prime Minister touched upon in the March episode of his monthly radio programme. He encouraged the countrymen to focus on water conservation and also congratulated the Indian cricket team for their wins against Pakistan & Bangladesh.

April 24th, 2016

While expressing his gratitude to the 1 crore families for giving up their LPG subsidy voluntarily, PM Narendra Modi said, “It’s not a small thing”. He later in the show spoke of importance of clean drinking water and encouraged all to become “agents of change” for cleaning the Ganga. He also emphasized upon increased use of technology to bring reform in the education sector.

PM Modi congratulated the students for their exam results, and said that he is hay to see the girl students shine. He also informed about his meeting with 11 chief ministers of drought-hi states. He emphasized upon protection and conservation of forests and called for a collective effort. In this episode, he specified how his special radio programme has connected him with common man in every corner of the country.

Touching upon the anniversary of the Emergency that was imposed during 1975, Modi said that the nights of June 25-26 were the darkest for democracy. He said that democracy is our strength and together we will make our democratic fabric stronger. He brought to the listeners, insights into digital initiatives such as MyGov ortal along with lauding the ISRO for launching 20 satellites in a go. PM Modi also appreciated the induction of three women pilots into the Indian Air Force.

PM Modi appealed to the nation to send their good wishes to the Indian contingent at the Rio Olympics. He said that there is a need to develop an ecosystem of innovators and encourage innovation, experiment, entrepreneurship. He also urged to create a mass movement to plant as many trees as possible. He cautioned against rising digital threats and said that medicines must not be consumed without a doctor’s prescription.

While lauding the performance of the winners at the Rio Olympics, PM Modi said, daughters of our country have made the nation roud. He also paid tributes to Dhyanchand and recalled his contribution to Indian hockey. In his talk, he also remembered Dr S Radhakrishna and said, role of teachers is as important as mothers. He remembered Mother Teresa and her efforts towards the poor. While calling for unity, he said that loss of lives in Kashmir is the loss of the country.

While paying tributes to the martyrs of the Uri attack, PM Modi said that the perpetrators of the terror strike will not go unpunished. Shanti, Ekta, Sadbhavna are the solutions to our problems as well as leads to prosperity, he said. While noting the success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he said, Over 2.5 crore toilets have been constructed & we aim to build 1.5 crore in the coming year.

Calling for a cashless society, PM Modi urged the small traders to embrace technology. He also said that the decision to implement demonetisation wasn’t easy and that there will be inconvenience to rid the country of troubles of 70 years. We can gradually move from a ‘less-cash’ society to a cashless society. Youth can play a major role in this.

In this year's last radio address to the nation 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi on the occasion of Christmas said 15,000 people who use digital payment modes will be given a reward of Rs 1,000 each by a lucky draw. This amount will be transferred to their accounts.
