AHMEDABAD: A team of Shahpur police on patrol caught two persons along with an auto driver, with Rs 10.5 lakh in Rs 2,000 notes on Thursday night. The trio was detained by police on the basis of suspicion and the case has been referred to the income tax department.
Shahpur police said a team led by sub-inspector
Y G Gurjar was on patrol on Thursday night when they got information on an auto ferrying cash.
Working on tip-off, the team stopped the auto near Shram Bhavan at
JP Chowk at 9pm. A search of the vehicle fetched a cloth bag containing 525 notes of Rs 2,000 denomination.
“The occupants were identified as
Atul Parekh, the auto driver,
Prahlad Thakor, 41, and
Pravingiri Goswami, 38, all residents of Bavla. The duo mentioned in primary questioning that they were sent by a man identified as Raju Thakkar from Bavla, to buy kites, woollen jackets and other goods for his shop. As it was night and most markets were closed, the trio was detained,” said a Shahpur police official.
Investigators said that the I-T department will now probe the source of the new currency notes.
