The police of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, announced via twitter that it had succeeded in preventing a likely attack against a shopping center in Oberhausen by arresting two male suspects on Friday morning.

The suspects, aged 28 and 31 respectively, were brothers, said the police, and there were signs showing that the suspects have been planning for an attack against the shopping center.

The motivation of the suspected attackers as well as the fact whether more participants get involved in the attack plan, remains under investigation, the police said.

On Monday night, 12 people were killed and 48 others injured in the attack on the Christmas market near iconic Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin. Endit
