KOLKATA: Justice Girish Chandra Gupta, after taking charge of West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) on Wednesday, said that his main priority will be to set up human rights court in the districts.
Gupta, former chief justice of Calcutta high court, said, "We will soon frame rules for the functioning of the district human rights courts and consult National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for the same."
The Bengal government had earlier notified about setting up the district human rights courts in 2012, but they are yet to start functioning.

"We will create awareness in districts too. A notification has already been issued so that people lodge their complaints with the DM offices, which will forward the cases to WBHRC's office in Salt Lake."
He also added that there are plans to forward complaints to NHRC if the violation of rights involve personnel of central forces.
Gupta mentioned that he wanted to give relief to a rights victim and make sure the violators get departmental proceedings so that they get a chance of self defence.
"I need to be unbiased while providing justice to the rights victims. I will oversee whether there is any false complaint of rights violation."
Gupta also plans to be vigilant on the functioning of doctors in government hospitals.
