Enter Senior and U17 Indoor Champs

Four Scottish Olympians broke National Records on seven occasions during a superb summer in 2016 – with those performances now established ‘on the books’ of scottishathletics.

Andrew Butchart, Eilidh Doyle, Laura Muir and Lynsey Sharp were all in superb form, with Butchart and Sharp setting National Records in Rio and Muir setting those in the 1500m and the mile.

And British discus champion, Nick Percy, pushed out the distance in his event on three occasions since early June with a 63.38 performance in Sweden in July now ratified as the new National Record for that event.

Percy also set a Native Record at just under 60m at the Scottish Senior Champs at Grangemouth in August with all of these among those considered for approval by the Records Committee and subsequently rubber-stamped by the Track and Field Commission.

Alisha Rees set U20 National Records at 100m, while Combined Events has also seen Scottish Records at age group level over the past summer with Howard Bell, at U20, and U17 athlete Holly McArthur setting new marks.

There has also been progress on new events and a couple of historical performances and all at scottishathletics would like to forward our thanks to the Records Committee for their hard work and diligence in up-dating these lists.

*In the course of some historical research, it was discovered that the women’s native record for the heptathlon was wrongly shown as 5331 by Jayne Barnetson from 1988.

An earlier performance by Valerie Walsh (Tonbridge AC) – 5420 at the 1986 Commonwealth Games – had been ratified as a native record at the time and this has now been re-instated.
