KALYAN: A
Badlapur man has been arrested for carrying fake currency notes of the new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denominations. The amount recovered from Ajay
Pujari (32) was Rs 6,500. It included nine Rs 500 notes and one Rs 2,000 note.
Pujari has confessed to handling Rs 66,000 in fake currency since new notes were introduced after the November 8 demonetisation. “Our team had specific information that a person with fake currency was at
Yatri Hotel in Badlapur (East),“ said inspector Gautam Kamble of the Badlapur (East) police station.
Acting on it, the police laid a trap and nabbed Pujari. Frisking revealed the fake notes. An officer said the fake notes look almost like originals and only close inspection gives them away.
“After arresting him, when we made an inquiry, he revealed that he got the fake currency from a
Mumbra resident,
Mujawar Khan, who delivered it to him at an exchange price of Rs 200 for fake currency worth Rs 500,“ Kamble said. When the police visited Khan's residence, they got to know that he hadn't been home for two months.
