Won't go to court over funding ban: Anhad
NEW DELHI: Terming the government's move to cancel Foreign Contributions Regulation Act ( FCRA) licence for NGO Anhad as an attempt to silence its voice, founder and activist Shabnam Hashmi said that she said that she will not be challenging the order in court.
“We refused to be cowed down, and we will continue our work with Indian donations and if these are unavailable, then with no funds,'' Hashmi said.
The license was cancelled following an adverse notice of the NGO indulging in “undesirable activities against public interest'' was served.
Hashmi said that the NGO had received inquiry notices in June 2014 and October 2015.“There was an inspection in November 2015, where all our docu ments, annual reports, expense statements was studied. After which we received our FCRA license in March 2016. Then suddenly on December 15, I was informed that our license has been cancelled. This is an open repression,“ she said.
