KOLKATA: An attack by a gang of gamblers left at least seven injured. Three among them are in a critical condition. The gang members opened fire and thrashed the residents of a
Kanchrapara locality on Tuesday after they protested against their activities. The locals were attacked while returning from the police station.
According to locals, a section of Sahapara-Saratpally areas near Bijpur has become a gamblers' den in the past three to four years.
The gang is led by local rowdy
Santosh Kurmi and his two aides Bhaja and Monai. The critically injured are still undergoing treatment in
Kalyani Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital.
“Raids are on to nab some local criminals named in the FIR,“ said an officer of
Barrackpore police commissionerate.
