RAJKOT: A 22-year-old man from a village in Jamnagar hanged himself at his home, ostensibly because he was left jobless following central government’s decision to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
The deceased was identified as Bharat Vagh, a resident of Mota Vadiya village in Jamjodhpur taluka of Devbhoomi Dwarka district. He used to work an agricultural labourer for daily wages.
According to Jamjodhpur police, Bharat, was unable to find work on farms after demonetization and hence took this extreme step.
His uncle, Chhagan Vagh, told police that Bharat was living with his parents and was unmarried. He was not getting work on farms because of the cash crunch and as a result, he committed suicide. Demonetization has affected the common people in rural Gujarat badly, especially daily wage labourers like Bharat, who are struggling to earn a living.
