JAIPUR: At around 9.15 am on Monday when an ambulance with a patient suffering heart attack was negotiating the morning traffic to reach a nearby hospital, Jai Kishan, a resident of Vasant Bagh quickly moved his bike to give way to the ambulance at Gopalpura Bypass chauraha.
It was part of a mock drill which was conducted by the Times of India in association with CK Birla Hospitals – RBH.
The aim was to create awareness on traffic management among the people of Jaipur when an ambulance with critical care patients tries to find a way to rush to a hospital.
Jai Kishan and his father Kishan Chand were heading for their cycle shop situated in Kishan Pole market. There were nine such persons, who were awarded with a title of “life savers” as they gave way to ambulances at crossroads which are one of the busiest in the city.
Like Jai Kishan, PN Sanariya, a resident of Mansarovar and a banker won the title of “life saver” at Laxmi Mandir Chauraha. Raja Ram Chandra, resident of Surya Nagar and Kushal Banthia, resident of Jawahar Nagar was awarded with the same title. At Rambagh Circle, two persons Chiraguddin, who is a resident of Khetri came with his family to Jaipur in his car and Sirajuddin who was returning home after dropping his daughter at an education institute at Gandhi Nagar promptly made way from the ambulance. At Trimurti Circle, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who recently got selected in Rajasthan Administrative Services, Ashok Kumar Bunkar, a teacher in a private school, showed alertness in giving way to the ambulance. Khushbu Khandelwal, a student, also gave way to ambulance by moving away his bike.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) of the ambulance, Hridayanand Nath said, “The ambulance has all the equipment for advance life support including ventilator, oxygen cylinders and other equipment. But, the ambulance has to keep moving to reach the hospital as soon as possible. So people on the road with vehicles should understand that they can become life savers by just giving way to ambulances. In Jaipur, people are aware about it.”
Even traffic policemen act immediately hearing the sirens of a stuck ambulance at traffic light, to clear the traffic by allowing the vehicles to pass through the crossroad even when the traffic lights are blinking red.
The campaign would continue till December 24.
