Movie Review - Ballerina

FELICIE (Elle Fanning) is a poor orphan girl who dreams of becoming a ballerina. With help of her best friend, Victor (Dane DeHaan), who has his own dream of becoming an inventor, the two run away from the orphanange.
They go to Paris so that Félicie can join a reputable ballet school and make her dream come true. But once in Paris, Félicie gets separated from Victor. She bumps into a kind lady named Odette (Carly Rae Jepsen) who takes her in.
Félicie, in her desperation to get into a ballet school, then assumes the identity of pampered and bratty Camille (Maddie Ziegler).
Initially, the uncoordinated Félicie finds the lessons difficult but slowly, she rises up to the challenge.
She is just on the cusp of success when the real Camille shows up, and Félicie is exposed as a fraud.
Most animations like this will leave you with a sweet, gooey feeling inside, and this one is no different. It makes the perfect Christmas movie.
The ballet dance scenes look rather graceful. I was told that the filmmakers used key frame animation, and did motion capture of Aurélie Dupont and Jérémie Bélingard, two star dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet, to translate a realistic dance onto the screen.
However, it is not without its flaws.
Most animations will have interesting villains, who sometimes you would love more than the heroes.
Here is where the weakness lies. The villains in the form of the spoilt Camille and her mother come through as dull and tame.

But at the end of the day, this is an excellent movie for children as the film teaches them to never let go of their dreams, no matter what.
