The recent Blender’s Pride 2016 Fashion tour in Bengaluru saw Bollywood actors Kriti Sanon and Arjun Kapoor up the glam quotient as showstoppers for designers Masaba Gupta and Falguni and Shane Peacock, respectively. Held at the Leela Palace, the night saw two fabulous collections from the veteran designers, with two distinct flavours.
Celebrity designer Masaba played with classic monochrome – with a dash of vivid colour, showcasing designs for cocktail hour dressing. According to the designer, it is meant for the cosmopolitan woman, who likes to dress up, is elegant, classic and timeless.
Talking about her showstopper outfit, which was showcased by Kriti Sanon, she mentioned during a Facebook Live video how it was one of her favourite prints as it was inspired by mythological pillars (the black lehenga and choli has tiny pillars scattered all through). The silhouette is simple and clean, with a little drama thrown in with the long flared cut-sleeves.
Sanon, who has walked for Masaba many times before as well, spoke about how much she loved her designs – which are very young, quirky and feminine; adding that the outfits are simultaneously comfortable and classic.
The same evening saw a futuristic collection inspired by robots by Falguni and Shane Peacock, both of whom are huge fans of the noir when it comes to their own personal style. Speaking about their inspirations, the two said they were more inspired by music than nature for their collection — which had a lot of glitter with stone work and sequins on all the dresses, with interesting patterns and weaves.
Arjun Kapoor exuded the brawn, wit and hipster look as showstopper for the design duo, wearing a black jacket with white stripes strategically placed on the sleeves, and Satan and the No. 13 in white on the back. While interacting with the media after the fashion show, Kapoor’s take on his personal style was “I’m either a vagabond or a James Bond”.
