TIRUCHY: When demonetisation was announced by the central government, rumours were abuzz that it will result in increasing job prospects in the long run. In a surprising turn of events, it seems to have become true when a shop selling fancy jewellery put up a job vacancy asking for people willing to wait in queues outside ATMs to withdraw money.

The ad was put up at a shop in Chatiram Bus Stand by businessman R Sathaarth, 60, who distributes gold-plated fancy jewellery to shops in and around Tiruchy.

Speaking to Express, Sathaarth, hailing from Subramaniapuram locality, said, “I am unable to stand in long queues outside ATMs ever since demonetisation came into effect. My entire business has been affected and I had to turn away a few clients. I get tired after constant field work and waiting at ATMs in long queues.”

Sathaarth has been in the fancy jewellery business for four years and has been working with a number of fancy stores until the demonetisation crisis hit him hard. “I am unable to collect my own money deposited in the banks as cheques and neither cash nor Rs 100 denomination currency is available in ATMs,” a frustrated Sathaarth said.

However, he is happy to have got a response to his ad two days ago with Sekar from the same locality agreeing to work for him on the condition that he be paid Rs 100 on securing Rs 2,500 in Rs 100 denomination.
