The second Bazm-e-Sadaf International Symposium award ceremony and poetry session was recently held at Retaj Residence Al Corniche Hotel.
The event began with General Secretary Ahmad Ashfaq inviting the dignitaries and poets onto the stage for supplication after which Deputy Chief Patron Mohd Habibun Nabi welcomed the guests.
The programme was held in three parts. During the first session, a seminar on Mahjari Adab Aur Urdu Ki Nai Bastiyan (Migrated Urdu Literature and its New Horizons) was the topic of discussion. National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language Director Prof Irteza Karim presided over the function and Satco International Managing Director MS Bukhari was the chief guest. In the session, prominent scholars and drama and fiction writers, Jawed Danish from Canada, Basir Kazmi from the UK, Anwar Zaheer from Germany and Taslim Arif from India spoke on Mahjari Adab. Prof Safdar Imam Qadari from the UAE was the anchor for this session while Janab Malikul Zahur ul Islam, Aziz Katib and Hasan Abdul Kareem Chougule were the guests of honour. Citation for award winners were read by Nadim Mahir and Aziz Nabil.
Prof Irteza Karim shared with guests his discussion with the Indian HRD Minister that shortly international mushairas and seminars will be arranged by NCPUL with an award of Indian Rupees five lakh in literature and Urdu for the winners.
He also informed that Bazm-e-Sadaf International is included in the approved list to organise such functions. The professor also said that there are many other points under discussion and shortly the full details will be available on the NCPUL website. He also requested MS Bukhari to write a letter and acknowledge accepting Qatar as a country to hold the 1st International function of NCPUL, and requested the Indian Ambassador for his support and consent.
For the first time in Doha, Bazm-e-Sadaf International organised a skit called 'Dastan Goi' performed by Jawaid Danish, which was very well appreciated by all audience. More than five characters were in the skit and each of the characters spoke in a different Urdu dialect spoken in different parts of India. The one-hour-long skit was very well received.
In a different session, awards were presented in the presence of the Ambassador of India to Qatar HE P Kumaran, Prof Irteza Karim and MS Bukhari, a long-time Qatar resident and prominent businessman and chief patron of Bazm-e-Sadaf International.
In this session the 'Bazm-e-Sadaf International Urdu Literary Award', and Bazm-e-Sadaf Nai Nasal Award 2016 were given. The annual Bazm-e-Sadaf Awards are international awards given for the promotion of Urdu and the Bazm-e-Sadaf International Award 2016 was conferred on Jawaid Danish of Canada who received a memento and shawl along with a cash award of INR 100,000.
Bazm-e-Sadaf Nai Nasl Award 2016 was conferred on Dr Wahid Nazir of India, who received a memento and shawl along with a cash award of INR 50,000.
The mission of Bazm-e-Sadaf was shared by Bazm-e-Sadaf International Chairman Shahabuddin and he also detailed future plans and briefed the audience on the work accomplished in the last year.
The Indian Ambassador thanked Bukhari for inviting him to the event and said that he really was mesmerised by the poetry session and also expressed that he learned Urdu through Arabic when he was posted in Egypt and is still trying to learn more. He congratulated the entire Bazm-e-Sadaf team for organising such an event and extended his best wishes.
MS Bukhari who has organised many Urdu poetry sessions (mushairas) in Doha, thanked the Ambassador for attending the event and said that the standard of Urdu poetry in Doha is very high.
"People loved the poetry and from the crowd's reaction, I am happy to say that the Urdu skit was a big hit as well," said Bukhari and recited a few couplets from the poetry of Allama Iqbal. He thanked all the guests and poets who had come from different countries.
After the award ceremony, the international mushaira began led by Anjum Barabankvi. Other poets who participated were Danish, Basir Sultan Qazmi, Safdar Imam Qadri, Wahid Nazir, Vijay Tiwari, Anwar Zaheer and Tasleem Arif.
The mushaira was attended by a big audience who specially enjoyed the poetry by Basir Kazmi from UK and Vijay Tiwari from India, whose Naat recitation was beyond compare. Nizamat of Anjum Brabankavi was very well coordinated and the appreciatve audience thoroughly enjoyed the creativity of all the poets.
Ten different organisations, involved in Urdu promotion were felicitated and mementos were given to them. All the poets were also felicitated. Mohd Habibun Nabi presented the vote of thanks.
