MUMBAI: The general body of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) unanimously passed a resolution demanding extension of metro line beyond Dahisar.
The state cabinet on October 6, 2015 gave its nod to build two elevated metro routes — Dahisar-D N Nagar and Andheri (E)-Dahisar (E).
MBMC commissioner Dr Naresh Gite had placed a proposal before the general body regarding extending metro to the Mira-Bhayander region.
All parties including the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena, Congress, NCP agreed to the need to extend metro beyond Dahisar. The proposal will now be send to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the agency implementing the metro projects.
The civic administration has suggested that the line running on the east side can pass through Kashimira, Golden Nest Circle, Maxus Mall, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose ground and Bhayander (west).
The line running on the west side (link road) can pass through Mira Road, Bhayander (west). The two lines are scheduled to be completed by 2019.
Last year, over 2,000 people had signed the online petition #MetroForMiraBhayander. BJP MLA Narendra Mehta has even written to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to carry out a feasibility study of extending metro to Bhayander.
Residents too had opined that if the metro can run upto Dahisar, it can be extended to the Mira-Bhayander belt.
