MotoGP: Calendar reshuffle sees Assen and Sachsenring go back-to-back

A reshuffling of the 2017 MotoGP calendar will see the Dutch TT and German Grand Prix go back to back, after the Sachsenring race was moved forwards two weeks to avoid a clash with Formula One.

The races will now have only four days in between them, creating a logistical hurdle for the teams and suppliers as they move the 200 trucks that comprise the MotoGP circus from continental Europe’s westernmost coast to the far side of Germany.

The change brings the number of back-to-back races up to three, with the Mugello and Barcelona rounds and Austrian and Czech races now taking place only a week apart.

The 2017 calendar remains provisional for now, with both the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang marked as subject to contract, likely due to the former’s bizarre hosting agreement through rights-holders Circuit of Wales and thanks to the Malaysian circuit’s recent moves to ditch F1 in favour of it’s two-wheeled competitor.
